It`s counter-style eating here at this fish market set in a Victorian storefront. And, you won`t find fresher chowder or oysters anywhere else in the city. Swan`s is a San Francisco staple, up there with cable cars, sourdough and fog. The white-jacketed servers are briskly professional, the chowder is hearty and delicious, and the retail selection of fish is wide. There`s not much hot food on the menu so feast on the chowder or smoked fish, then take a filet home for dinner.
If you go to Swan Oyster Depot, you`ll find a coffee shop that specializes in American meals where it`s common to order seafood and the raw bar. Expect to pay under $8 per person.
